When I was 17, I crushed on Oasis. Their music blew my mind, so I started collect their video of gigs and watched it every single day. Their music was just great and I loved their lyrics too. I couldn't help memorizing all of their lyrics because I watched their gigs everyday and I listened to their music everyday. These lyrics was really helpful for my English, but it was just a beginning.
I loved Oasis too much, finally I started to watch their interview from YouTube. It was really hard to understand British accent, especially Manchester accent. However, I repeated to watch it several times just like I used to watch gigs, I think finally I understood.
Oasis made my high school grade bad, but they made me quite good English listener.
Actually I'm going to concert tomorrow!! Oasis does not exist anymore, but I love their solo music too, so I'm going to check lyrics right now, and I will understand every word from his mouth tomorrow.
That's a great example of an English experience outside the classroom! It's great that you found something to be passionate about. I think it really helps when you are learning.
